On September 12, 2019, the SBLA’s Tampa Chapter hosted a fundraiser at Ruth’s Chris Steak House featuring Hall of Fame Coach Tony Dungy. Coach Dungy is a pillar in the Tampa Bay area and spoke to us about the intersection of faith, community, leadership, and sports. One of Coach’s lessons that resonated with us was that most people, in sports and in life, usually succeed through uncommon talent or uncommon effort. Since most of us were not born with transcendent talent, it is crucial to apply uncommon effort to make our dreams and goals a reality.

Here at the SBLA, our core goal is to provide children in our communities with the resources and support to engage in unique sports experiences or to attend sports camps. Sports have provided many of our members with the opportunity to achieve dreams and to accomplish professional and personal goals that might otherwise have been unattainable. Please join us in that uncommon effort to provide our communities’ future leaders with the foundation they need to thrive.

The SBLA would like to thank our sponsors Holland & Knight, Tampa Bay Buccaneers, Compass, Tampa Bay Rays, Tibbetts Lumber Co. LLC, Universal Spine & Joint Specialists, ViralStyle, XFL, and Home Care Assistance for making this event possible; Ruth’s Chris for providing both the venue and excellent service; the Tampa Bay Times for ensuring that news of this event reached as many of our community members as possible; and Coach Dungy for his inspiration and support.
